Denali in Autumn by Charlaine Williams.

Another terrific series of photos received the most clicks on the Fairbanks Twitter account this month. Here are the top five, with one bonus link that is getting a lot of traffic over the past few days.

  1. Very interesting Mt. McKinley photo taken from an airplane: http://ow.ly/zjma
  2. Beautiful and non-typical Alaska Arctic photo of Mt. Dillon in the Brooks Range: http://ow.ly/vftH
  3. This is what you may see today, if you were ‘Hiking along the Chena River’ in Fairbanks: http://ow.ly/vfxv
  4. Visitor captures a couple of great photos of a Grizzly momma bear and her cub near Denali: http://ow.ly/vvmm
  5. Breathtaking images from Denali – http://ow.ly/xm6k

This only-in-Alaska post has been re-tweeted eight times. For non-Twitterers – that means people have repeated it on their page with a credit to us:

The Remnants of Winter in Fairbanks

May 4, 2009 | Tags: ,

One of the great things about Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center is its location on the banks of the Chena River, which is a center of activity in Fairbanks. Friday it was sunny and 75 degrees. From my upstairs office window I could see the last of the ice from upriver flowing quickly through downtown:

Fairbanks has the most consistent warm weather of any destination in Alaska, and has nearly 24-hour daylight (midnight sun) all summer. So…after the last of the ice in the river is gone, and looking out the window right now it seems it is, we have a generally beautiful season ahead of us. Find more weather information or make a plan to visit now!
